Quick Answer

BMI in Kilograms and Centimetres

In metric units, BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². Convert centimetres to metres by dividing by 100 first. For 80 kg at 180 cm: 180 cm = 1.8 m, 1.8² = 3.24, and 80 ÷ 3.24 = 24.7 — a normal-range result. The calculator above is already set to metric, so just type your kilograms and centimetres.

Working It Out in Metric

The metric formula is the original definition of BMI, expressed in kg/m². Divide your height in centimetres by 100 to get metres, square it, then divide your weight in kilograms by that square. A person of 90 kg at 175 cm works out as 1.75² = 3.0625, then 90 ÷ 3.0625 = 29.4 — inside the overweight band, which runs from 25 up to 30. Because height is squared, a small change in height moves the result more than the same change in weight, which is why entering your height accurately matters.

Reading Your Metric Result

After you calculate, the result card shows your BMI, your category and the healthy weight range in kilograms for your height — the span that keeps you between BMI 18.5 and 24.9. If you are above it and want to plan a change, the Weight Loss Calculator turns a target weight into a daily calorie figure, and the TDEE Calculator estimates your daily energy burn. Prefer pounds and feet? The full BMI Calculator switches units and adds Asian and senior thresholds.

BMI is a screening number, not a measure of body fat. Very muscular builds can read high, and children and teens use age-specific percentiles instead.
